Hello - this is so scary!! I've never done this before! but i've been reading your messages for ages and wanted to be able to join in but didn't have the time (or the courage!!). I've just finished a 2 year Foundation course and have 3 months off before I start at Uni (scary, too!) so I thought I'd join while I have time on my hands. You all seem very friendly, so I'm sure I'll be safe!!!:)

Hello - I've just finished at college (foundation in art & design) and will be starting a degree in Applied Art. (My son starts uni in September, too! We've both been at the same college for the last 2 years - he was doing his A levels. We're not going to the same uni though!!!)

Well done on the colleage course and good luck at Uni. Good idea not to go to the same one as your son!

Hi don't feel like you can't join in. We're all a really friendly bunch.

What are you going to be studying? Where will you be going to uni? I remember that feeling when I knew uni was approaching. I'm sure you'll enjoy it lots though.

Hello CraftyGal! Thanks - you do all seem very friendly!

As a "mature" student (though my husband says I'm not "mature", just older!) I've got to stay at home in Essex (though again, my hubby was very keen on me applying to Scotland!) so I'm going to the University of Hertfordshire, in Hatfield. I'm doing Applied Arts and will be doing it part-time as my daughter is starting Sixth form in September and also I want to be able to carry on with my other interests - ie crafting and meeting my friends!

Hi. Welcome to the forum:)

I'd love to do a course like that. How did you find the foundation coarse?

Hi!
It was very enjoyable - challenging, rewarding, challenging, exciting - did I say challenging? I really feel that I've come a long way in the 2 years. That's why I decided to take it further.
I was lucky that our local college offered it as a part-time course, which suited me, although there was a mature student who chose to do it in 1 year (and she has 2 LITTLE children - mine are now 18 and 16 and so able to help out around the house).
I had been going to an Adult Education Centre, doing painting and drawing 2 hours a week, for a few years and my tutor suggested it as a next step (maybe she was just trying to get rid of me!!!!)
If you have a desire or dream I feel that you owe it to yourself to try to fulfil it. It's the things we don't do in life that we're most likely to have regrets about. Go for it!

Hi
I went to uni as a "mature" student and had a fab time!!! I think you are absolutely right about owing it to yourself to pursue those dreams! Go for it and have a wonderful time!

I'm the best person to talk about uni lol - I dropped out after 4 weeks. I just hated the course. I tried to get to do teacher training but I couldn't get a place anywhere nearby. I sort of regret not trying harder but I'm only young and it's something I can go back to later on. I'm enjoying what I do at the moment.

What sort of crafts and art do you do?

Hi and welcome. It is great when you decide to take a course and enjoy it and want to continue with learning.

What crafts are you currently doing and what would you like to do in the future?

HI Rosemary!

Sorry I've taken so long to reply - I've been on holiday!

I've recently got addicted to ATCs but I've been making cards for several years now. I also do patchwork (want to make a quilt for my son before he goes off to uni, he's outgrown the last one and has been asking for over a year now for a bigger one so I thought i'd make it as a surprise for when he leaves! I haven't started on it yet though!!! oops!) I started cross stitch when I was about 10 as I wanted to copy the sampler my mum had done when she was at tailoring college. I now love anything paper/fabric /texture/colour. I want to start scrapbooking too, and am going to meet up with my sister over the summer to start that - she's already done some. I want to make little books/albums. Some of my friends have been on some LOVELY courses for this but they are always on the Saturday near my daughter's birthday - next year looks hopeful though! Oh, and sometimes I knit but I can't crochet yet so want to learn that! (Also, I want to travel lots - I used to be scared of flying but went on a fear of flying course several years ago and feel I've got lots of lost time to make up for!!I think I'm 24 but I've thought that for 18 years now!!!!!!)

As you can see I like lots of things - don't ask me what my favourite is - I used to be indecisive but now I'm not so sure!!!

Have you lived in Spain long? My sis-in-law moved to Palomares (Almeria) about 7 years ago.

Hi Wizadeborah.

Lovely to see that you enjoy your crafts so much.

I have lived in Spain for 2 years now and love where we are and the people in our village are lovely and friendly.
