Hi

The sun is shining here which makes a change as we currently have the Town Moor here or the Hoppings as it is also known as. We normally have a down pour from when they arrive until the go home

Now, you see, I'd have called this week's thread something like 'Wimbledon's here'!

It's going to be lovely and sunny all week - not terribly hot, but who cares!

Not a tennis fan here...won't be watching....busy week at work this week.

Bagpuss
23rd June 2008, 12:19 PM
Ditto here - don't watch Wimbledon at all - oh unless the Wombles are on LOL!

Back from my interview so it is all in the lap of the gods now - fingers crossed!

I love Wimbledon though I'm not sure how much of it I'll get to see, actually todays shoot was cancelled due to a migraine (theirs not mine) so thats rescheduled for next Monday, I still have piles of stuff needing to be done though!!

Hope everyone is well, smiling and Happy!!

Love Wimbeldon, hope Roger Federer wins again, though it would be nice if Andy Murray is runner up.

No preference for the ladies title.

Yes I am smiling I got a new job today!!! Provided I can get afterschool sorted for DD then I can start on Monday!

LeonieM
23rd June 2008, 07:34 PM
I didn't imagine it - Bagpuss posted about only having one week left to work at the craft shop, and I then I congratulated her and asked if she started the new job on Monday.

10 minutes later, both those posts had gone to be replaced with Bagpuss' post of 6.26pm.

Is there any particular reason????

Bagpuss
23rd June 2008, 07:39 PM
I did not do anything honest!!! Starting work for the same company as DH works for - initially taking phone orders then later moving into customer services. Hours are great 9.30am til 3.15pm but as DDs school is not very local then she will have to go to the after school club just for half an hour or so!

:D well done bagpuss :D all the best for the new job

CraftyGal
23rd June 2008, 08:58 PM
All the best for the new job!

Yuck - Wimbledon! What I don't get is why certain members of my family turn into tennis nuts when Wimbledon starts?! They want to know who's playing, what's happening etc etc. Except the other 50 weeks of the year they couldn't care less about tennis lol. Strange!

I hope it's going to be a nice week. My lawn is well over due to be mowed and I get to see Eric Clapton this week!!! Yay! (Can anyone tell I'm excited? lol)

I hope Tink feels suitably ashamed for not having given the thread its proper title.

I feel somewhat disorientated. I put IW on at 10.30pm to catch some crafting - and fell asleep. I woke up about 10 minutes ago, and I honestly feel almost as if it's the middle of the night I was that deeply asleep. I've had to wake myself up and cook Emma's individual pizza for her lunch tomorrow. She's still banging round her room - because she's got no school tomorrow, she thinks it's okay to stay up half the night. Kids!

Oh and I found my 'missing' posts - it was actually in Nige's thread and I just found them! Duh! Shows you how 'with it' I am today. :o

You know what, i didn't even know Wimbledon was here. Sports isn't ever menton in our house and i rarely watch the news

Having a stressful day and don't think its going to get better grrrr

Congratulations on the job Helen

We went to The Hoppings last nite, big fun fair that stretches across the town moor.

While there i decided to get my palms read. It was interesting. She said that i was having problems with where i was living and that she was watching my every move. (Hit the nail on the head their) She also said that she could see me in a uniform in 2 to 3 years time but it woud require more studying and that i should of been a nurse as i like to help people and that is my down fall. She did say i was tough (which i don't agree with as i do get very emotional easily) She said that i had lost weight before but had put it back on but i would lose it again. She also said that she saw me with 4 children, 2 daughters and two either very close in age or twins, she couldn't say which.

I have had a reading down before around 4 years ago and some of the things he said have come true IYKWIM. He said someone was pointing to my eyes and that i should get them checked out and that Matt wouldn't last in the army.

I don't know about anyone else but i believe in this kind of stuff. I don't want to offend anyone but does anyone else believe in this.

tink84, I believe in it! I had my palm read over a year ago. I was told that my partner now is my partner for life. We'll have three children, two close together (twins?) and we'll settle down properly when I'm 25. She said my career would invlove travel and my husband (when were married) will be waiting at home for me with the children. Lots of things she said about my past were true.
I'm still waiting for this all to happen but I'll let you know if it does.
I don't think there's any harm in it, and the money went to charity!

tink84
24th June 2008, 11:48 AM
I'll have to wait too to see what does happen. But i did have my eyes tested the last time and i do need glasses and Matt didn't last in the army due to medical problems.

At the mo i am debating over which path to take but i do think i would enjoy being in a hopsital but will just have to wait and see. She did say that i was happy with who i was with and that although he doesn't always listen to me but he does love me.

My sisters b/f got his done and the first thing she said to him was that you have lost someone very very close to you, he lost his mum 3 years ago

I'm taking the children to the hoppings later Sarah, is the ground soggy? Is it exhorbitantly expensive?

I need a full rundown before I empty my piggybank, LOL!!

tink84
24th June 2008, 02:31 PM
Yes its expensive though most stalls and smaller rides are around £1 to £2ish

Food is very expensive £3 for a cheese burger and £2 just for a corn on the cob

the ground is ok though a little muddy in the odd places

Have fun

Mandy Charlton Photography
24th June 2008, 07:13 PM
We had such a brilliant time and I won £50!!! so we spent about 4 hours, went on tons of rides, had a brilliant time and I came back having only spent £15, LOL!!

definetly money well spent!!

tink84
24th June 2008, 07:23 PM
What did you win your money on?

LeonieM
24th June 2008, 08:34 PM
Great news, Mandy - it's great when you win, isn't it!

A colleague of mine won £450.00 on the lottery on Saturday on 'hot picks' and a further £10 for getting 3 numbers in lotto as well! Not fair - the most I've ever won is £100 for getting 4 on Thunderball about 18 months ago. I think I've won about £20 since then ...

Mandy Charlton Photography
24th June 2008, 08:39 PM
I was chuffed to bits, it was on a crane thingy and it's such a fluke because when we got the toy out which the £50 was attached to there was a hole in the toy where it had been weighted, LOL serves them right really!!

Bagpuss
24th June 2008, 09:20 PM

LeonieM
24th June 2008, 09:22 PM
lol

Those things always annoy me - I can never understand how you can see people round these machines with armfulls of the toys, yet I can never get a single one out. I sometimes think I'd like to say "Here's my £1 - can you get one out for me please."

CraftyGal
24th June 2008, 09:34 PM

"Here's my £1 - can you get one out for me please."

I've tried that one Leonie. My Nan somehow always wins on those machines but whenever someone else gives her money to get one she can't win.

My dad can always win on those crane ones. There was one in the paper a few weeks ago. A young boy crawled into one of the larger cranes ones as he wanted a toy from it. It took over an hour to release him

Well good morning everyone :)

Busy day today, i'm doing some headshots later on today for a company who need some new ID cards! It makes a change to actually work during the week and the strangest thing is that I had to turn down even more work for today, Bizarre!!

I hope everyone has a fantastic day :)

Well I have not only updated my blog (http://bagpuss30.blogspot.com/) but even managed to do two posts in one day! One of them you really must check out if you like the Hanglar and Stanglar stamps BUT have not been able to get your stickly mitts on some cause my team mate from UKS is giving away some lovely blog candy in the form of some stamped images of these so head over to my blog for the link!

Couple of new cards on there too - in fact I seem to do more cards than scrapbook pages at the moment but really pleased with the results and it does mean that VERY slowly my scrap pile is being used up! YIPPEEEE!

Morning all :)

Whats everyone up to this weekend?

Bagpuss
27th June 2008, 10:43 AM
Work for me all of tomorrow :( but at least it is the last one :D! Might go to a 1980's party tomorrow night - DD is invited as they also have a little one so will depend on how I feel after work, plus DH and DD want to watch Dr Who as the Daleks are on it - and no they will not have it recorded before anyone asks LOL!

Then on Sunday if the weather holds we are on for a BBQ!

Guessing you are lovely and busy this weekend with work too Mandy??

Mandy Charlton Photography
27th June 2008, 10:48 AM
I'll be glued to Dr Who Helen!!

I am photographing a group of 50 bankers who are all dressed in spots and stripes tonight at 9pm in a bar in Newcastle, thats got to be fun! Tommorrow I have nothing on as I had a cancellation so we're waiting for our V+ box to be delivered so that we can finally watch HD Tv and then we'll probably go out for the day as we've just rejoined the National Trust and then on Sunday I have a fairly quiet day and I have a couples session on Sunday evening and then another couples session on Monday evening for a poor couple who's wedding photographs were ruined by their supposed photographer! my busy-ness then continues all week with my busy period of weddings kicking off a week tommorrow.

Mandy Charlton Photography
27th June 2008, 12:48 PM
I can't wait until our kids break up from school, we're all completely knackered and it would be nice to not have to get up until half past eight every morning. I think we've got 3 weeks to go!

LeonieM
27th June 2008, 12:50 PM
We've just had a 15 minute downpour here. I popped up to Next only to discover that they don't stock the petite range at that branch anymore, and I should go to Covent Garden. Well, with only 10 minutes left on my lunchbreak, that didn't give me enough time.

All their standard length trousers are a good 5" too long - and as I wanted them for tonight that's no good. They don't have any 'culottes' above a 12, either!

The only cropped pair I could find (which are nearly ankle length on me anyway) in my size are clearly hipster because the 'waist' is enormous and they're far too shallow in the body.

So, if I go tonight, I'll have to wear my purple linen crops which I came to work in, and are all creased and bagged in the knee where I've been sitting down in them all day.

Plus, of course, it's a garden party and if it's going to rain on and off the rest of the day it won't be very pleasant at all.

Finally, my boss thought the gp was yesterday and has made other arrangements for today - he doesn't actually work Fridays, you see. So, I don't even know if he's coming in for that. As I'd have to schlepp across London from Charing Cross up to Smithfield in the worst half hour of rush hour, I'm not sure I want to go at all now. :(

LeonieM
27th June 2008, 10:36 PM
Evening all! I did go - and I actually enjoyed myself!!!

It didn't start well when I ended up having to work until 5.30pm instead of being able to get my slap on. It also didn't help that the easiest way to get to Smithfield was to get on the Circle Line and go almost halfway round! Took nearly 40 minutes in the end!

I had 4 glasses of the loveliest champagne - and I've forgotten the name of it again! Most champers you get is so dry it almost dries your throat out on the way down - this one was absolutely perfect. It did take ages before some canapes that I would eat came out - salmon and asparagus tartlets and later some hot mini haddock fishcakes! Mm-mmm! Finished off an hour later by a couple of chocolate brownies (no, they were very small) and a mini cream horn.

I got home about half an hour ago and I'm not drunk, honest! The flutes weren't very big and I didn't have 4 glasses and, more importantly, I didn't let them top me up! You can really lose track of how much you've had to drink when they do that.

Oh, and it didn't rain again after 3pm, so that was alright, too. ;)

Mandy Charlton Photography
27th June 2008, 10:43 PM
glad you enjoyed yourself Leonie, I photographed 50 bankers in nightclub conditions, I think I need a medal and can safely say that I can photograph people in pretty much any condition ever now! I'm now relaxing with a well earned vodka and coke or two!!

Day off tommorrow, Yay me!!

Glad you had a good time Leonie and hope you have had a good day off Mandy as I am guessing there are not many free Saturdays for you!

Well for me in the future everyone hopefully will be - finished at work today and start the new job on Wednesday. Got three lovely cards (handmade of course!) along with some lovely flowers and some yummy Thorntons Continentals which are my faves!

Mandy Charlton Photography
28th June 2008, 05:30 PM
They should have given you a large box of stash too!!

I've mostly lolled about today, Paul and I celebrated one of my best friends lives with a few vodkas and cokes last night when I got home (he died a couple of weeks ago from Sudden adult death syndrome and it was his funeral on Thursday but I couldn't face it), he would have been proud of us as we didn't go to bed till half five so today we've been lazing about mostly! We did make it out for lunch and a quick trip to the game shop, I bought the Olympics for the Xbox 360 and Trauma centre for my DS, I'm such a game junky lately!!

Anyone want a puppy? My neice's dog had 9 Thursday night/yesterday morning. All mutts. German shepherdxcollie x Springer spanielxcollie so 50% collie. Two look like proper border collies, one is mainly white, a couple are mainly black and the rest are shepard marked.

Will get photos when they don't look like slugs!

I would love a dog but don't think Kitt would be too happy lol

My neighbour has just got a jackrussel given from another neighbour. For some reasone the dog took a real dislike to the orginal owners niece and she decided as much as she loved her she would never be able o forgive herself if anything happened. He' gone to a very good home as his new owner has always wanted one since he was young and he is now in his forties so she knows he is going to be loved

I'm feeling quite pleased with myself; having despatched Emma on a day trip to London with her youth group I've got the day to myself and have just finished watching Evita on DVD - and the minute the credits came up, my chappie from the garage rang up to ask if I'd made a decision on the car.

The woman from Orpington - she say YES!!!!

So, the wheels are now in motion to get my new car ordered. This is my new car:

http://www.vauxhall.co.uk/vx/carsandvans/brandcarhub.do?method=loadBrandHubCarPage&vehicleType=C&scope=S&brandName=newagila

Ohh love the car

I want a new car too but not allowed one:(
I also want a new laptop lol too

I do need a new laptop more as this one is on its last leg but having trouble trying to persuade matt

LeonieM
29th June 2008, 01:38 PM
According to Liam, I need a new PC as well. Basically, even though this one is only just over a year old and runs Vista Home Premium, it can't play HiDef digital videos and he also reckons that the reason why I'm typing too fast for the keyboard is because the processor isn't fast enough. I asked how much it would cost to upgrade the processor, and then he said that my hard drive probably doesn't run fast enough to keep up anyway. So, basically, it's new PC or put up with it!

As my lappie is now nearly 2 years old and even older spec than this, I certainly can't run any HiDef videos on that at all. So, I suggested what if I just buy a new lappie and plug it in to the external keyboard and monitor when I'm at home. So he said a laptop can never be as powerful as a desktop.

You just can't win! I'm really not minded to spend £700 on a new PC only a year after buying this one - especially when you consider all the things you have to copy/transfer/re-load every time you change PC or have to install a new hard drive or something.

He said it's my fault for buying one from PC World! Yeah, thanks for that! :(

tink84
29th June 2008, 01:51 PM
My laptop is 5 years old so can't complain really.

LeonieM
29th June 2008, 02:36 PM
If your lappie is really 5 years old, I don't think you're being unreasonable in wanting to upgrade it! Seeing as you can get a perfectly usable wifi lappie for £400 these days, I think you should go for it - assuming you can afford it, of course!

tink84
29th June 2008, 03:12 PM

Mid-July hopefully. The trouble is, I'm running on empty at the moment. There's no point me filling the tank, so yesterday I just put a fiver's worth in. I don't think that'll last 2-3 weeks, so I'll probably have to put another fiver's worth in in a couple of weeks.

I'll have it for our trip to Bognor at the beginning of August, anyway, which will be perfect. :D

LeonieM

It's shocking, isn't it. When I first got my car I could fill up from empty to about £25. Last time I spent about £37 - it's only got a 40l tank! Obviously, from totally empty to totally full would now cost £48 - I think I'd have a ruddy heart attack!

CraftyGal
30th June 2008, 11:58 AM
We had to fill our car up to get to London and back this weekend. The tank was just above the red and it took £40 of petrol to fill it. I only drive a 1.2l Corsa. What with fuel prices and food prices - I can't afford anything that isn't essential at the moment.

Hi

I know a lot of people have facebook and wondered if you could let me know how secure this is as have just found out that DD has been set up with an account and i have concerns as last year I found that she had been on a chat room site and put personal information in [name address etc.] and didn't really have a clue who she had been talking to, we don't know how she got on as her computer is - or i thought - quite secure and OH will not let her have MSM.

I closed her account down but now have found out that my DIL has set her up with Facebook and really just want to find out if she is safe bearing in mind she is 15 and quite naive. I am quite angry about this and am typing to calm down as I feel that she should have asked me if it was OK to set it up for her before doing it, I am sure if I did something like this with my Grandchildren without running it past them first all hell would break loose

Any comments would be grately appreciated

LeonieM
30th June 2008, 11:05 PM
This is a difficult one. I personally don't have one and wouldn't because I think a forum is about as 'public' as I want to go. I don't even update my blog very often.

It seems to me that people don't think they've got a life unless they've got hundreds of Facebook 'friends' and get dozens of hits.

Your daughter certainly shouldn't be putting any contact details on her account. There are some right nutters out there - did you see the recent Watchdog programmes and stuff about stalkers who groom youngsters pretending to be their peers? It's very scary. She probably wants to be part of the scene because all her friends are, but I would also worry.

I don't think anyone should have gone behind you back to set up an account for her, either.

jakjak
30th June 2008, 11:29 PM
Hi

Thanks for your comments as I sometimes feel that I am wrong worrying so much.

I do think she learnt her lesson from last time but you never know it is just how do you monitor something like this without prying to much, I don't want to be nosey with her friends but I do want to know she is safe.

She has just come and said she will close her account so that I won't worry all the time and I do know she was 18 mths younger when she did it the last time.

She is the youngest by 11 years and my daugher in law I think sometimes forgets that she is a child still.

I did not watch the programme I wanted to but missed it can't remember now why but also forgot to record it.

She has parental control on her computer and a lot of sites are blocked but it is still surprising what things they can still do without your consent and because she has controls on her computer she thinks if she can get on them then they must be safe. Some sites she couldn't even access without us unblocking them that she needed for her GCSE's

tink84

Facebook can be set so that only friends can see your profile. You can also control which friends your chose to add and which you don't so that she only has her friends from school on it IYKWIM. Your DIL should of asked but it may be her personal opinions that influenced her to do so. Don't mean to cause offence.

At 15 i didn't have access to the internet at home so it was never an issue, however, my sister did at 15 and i know she would meet with people who she didn't really know. But that was Sam for you.

I use Facebook extensively and what is more I have all my contact details on there because of course I run a business. The thing about Facebook is I would say it's perfectly safe as long as she sets her profile to private, doesn't add somewhat daft apps which could be phishing scams and doesn't talk to people she doesn't know. I think if you chat with her and explain your concerns but give her your blessing she'll be more inclined to respect your wishes. Just explain you don't mind her using Facebook as long as she keeps to your guidance, it's better than just banning her where she's more likely to rebel against you. :)

This of course is just my humble opinion so feel free to ignore!

I feel Mandy is right to say allow her access - but with guidelines. She's 15 so is old enough to use it properly.

My boys have been using this type of networking sites for years. I know they wouldn't have appreciated a total ban.
