Hi :)
I've just started "playing" around with polymer clay - desperately trying to make some pendants to start off with, but I can't seem to get rid of fingerprints - I've tried brushing them out which drags the clay and pattern and several coats of varnish later, they are still showing. Does anyone have any tips?
Thanks
AF;)

Can you wet your fingters with a little water and smooth over the edges?? I hate seeing finger marks too. I have only had a play about really though.

Hi Gail, thanks for taking the time to reply. I have tried wetting my fingers but it just drags. I really hate the fingerprints and would'nt want to try to sell anything with them in.

I can't use gloves, they get in the way. Sounds like you clay is very fresh and quite soft. Put in the fridge before you need to work with it. Try not to overwork it and then you'll find you wont get prints. Also, I use the back of my fingernail - the longest one -wet it first -to smooth out any imperfections. See if that helps!

but when I make cakes using marzipan etc - I use very very fine plastic gloves. These can be bought online. Dont know if this would help or not.

are you using Fimo or Sculpey?
I used to find that happened when I used the Eberhard Faber Fimo Varnish on Sculpey because the texture was somewhat softer.....but it was OK with the harder Fimo.....
Are you letting the varnish dry thoroughly before applying each coat.....
