:) I like doing altered books. Is there anyone else who does them please ?

For anyone worried about me destroying books I only use ones with half the pages missing! The rest I love to read :D

I'd love to see what you do. I have a children's hard back book to paly with but never have. I have done a couple of the HOTP books where you decorate the cover with a kit.

Do you do novels and are they themed to the book? I know that you can actually buy hardback books for altering but I've always thought that a bit daft when you can get one from a charity shop.

:) Hi Our local charity shop has a shelf of 25p books so I usually try to pick one with a title that sounds OK. I have just finished one called "my secret diary" so I have put in all the things that most of us try to keep secret...like weight, dress size, age and so on. I've no idea what you are supposed to do so I just do whatever I like !

I started off doing covers on bought journals...then making my own books for scrapping, and after a spell of altering small boards books and tins etc I moved on to this. I must say I do enjoy it.

I cant show you anything yet as I dont know how to get an album on here Ive got photobucket but thats as far as I have got. I hope you have a go hon. Let me know what you have done I would love to see xxx

I have done it once. It didn't feel right to be altering them for some reason, and I've not done one since:( Perhaps I'll have to give it another go.

I've done a couple in my time. I'm planning to do some based on my recent trip to London.

I do enjoy books but the artist in me doesn't mind vandalising a few lol.

It is something I've always wanted to try and have spent ages in the past looking at the altered art websites.

As a book lover I am haven't yet been able to bring myself to alter a book - not even a 25p (or less!) bargain from the charity shop ... maybe if I came across an already tatty, battered and totally unloved book I would have a go.

I also feel a bit like I do about scrapbooking ... not quite sure how/where to get started so have never given it a go.

Watch this space I guess!

:) How about a 2007 diary...I got one this week for 20p and theres no way thats any use to anyone lol :D I thought I might do the 4 seasons or maybe I will do holidays and get out my stamps that only see daylight once a year (easter, christmas, valentines etc)
At the moment I am doing a dictionary ..another book that is useless when its got pages missing.
I have torn out the pages between plaice and prawn and highlighted the words and I am doing an underwater scene.
You cant do every page or else the book will be too thick to close but dont tear them out down to the binding else it will fall apart....a tear about half to three quarters of an inch out ( using about ten or so pages ) looks good especially if you layer up the torn edges. You then have room for all your favourite embellishments to fit in between the pages comfortably and your torn pages form a space.

I hope I dont come across as a know-all as I started this thread hoping some one would be kind enough to pass on some tips as I havent been doing it long :o

I hope you have a go x :)

I don't think so AT ALL ... I really enjoyed reading your post and have to admit I had such a giggle when I read that you tore out the pages from "plaice to prawn" ... must be in a strange mood because that just really tickled me!

I think your suggestions are brilliant and I just wouldn't have thought of using old diaries or dictionaries and I love your "themed seasons" idea.

Now you really have inspired me to have a go but, along with scrapbooking, will have to wait as I am so very far behind this year with my cardmaking and at this rate nobody in May will be getting a card - although, having said that all the male birthdays I have are done right up to December so they are all right!

Wow! I wish I was that organised. I've still got a present and card to make for a good friend's 21st next Saturday! lol

I've decided that if the weather is as poo as it has been this afternoon, I'm going to make a start on my new altered book hehe. If it's not poo I'll be out working on my garden so I'll have a new patio to sit at and craft outside in the summer (if we don't have one like last year that is).

I am glad you had a giggle at the "plaice/prawn" " idea Debbie lol !

Do tell what you have planned for your book x

I'm not too sure yet, I'm one of those people that things kinda get planned as I do them lol.

I'll post some pics when I've got something to show though :)

You're going to have to post pictures :)

kwa50 it's where you take an old book and do some scrapbook type pages in it. If you google altered books you'll find some to look at.
